Pravini was born on January, 9th 1985 in The Hague in the Netherlands. Encouraged
by her mother to take piano lessons she started playing at the age of 6 and
has been playing ever since. Discovering the beauty of chords Pravini learned
how to play and sing at the same time. From there on she evolved as a singer/songwriter
composing her own music and lyrics, always striving to improve herself.
As a teenager she was able to combine her love for music with her determination to excel in school. While performing at local talent shows and theatres in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague and Utrecht she managed to keep her grades up.
In 2000 she participated in the Mixt Urban Talent competition and went through several auditions. Together with other talented artists she was chosen as one of the winners of this competition and earned herself a workshop by Tasha of Tasha's World.
At the age of 18 she left for Boston to take a summer course at the Berklee
College of Music and studied jazzpiano. There she sharpened her skills in songwriting,
musicianship and playing the keys. After returning from this adventure she started
attending the University of Amsterdam where she majored in Media & Culture.

In 2005 Pravini ran into a talented female mc/producer named Sage, who coincidentally
lived two blocks away from her. By that time Pravini had written enough songs
to record her first demo. She decided Sage was the best woman for the job. They
hooked up and recorder four songs, all written by Pravini and produced by Sage.
In 2006, the same year she graduated and got her BA degree in Media & Culture,
she released her first single off of her demo called 'Cuz I'm A Lady.
Its clear Pravini is a lady who doesn't settle for less. The message of her
debut single applies to every aspect of her music. In February 2006 she launched
her first single with a video. By doing this she became the first Dutch Indian
R&B soul singer releasing a single and video on The Box. MTV Brand New Live
also aired part of her video.
Local radio stations such as Radio Mosa, Radio West, Sangam Radio and most
recently here in New York City HERMAN SINGH RADIO PROGRAMM 93.5 FM every Saturdays.
Radio Amor also showed their support by playing the song regularly. Local TV
stations such as TV West, Hindustani TV, Aplauzze TV and Sarnami TV also paid
attention to the newest Indian R&B and Soul sensation. The single was available
at national record stores like Free Record shop.
This past year Pravini has performed at big venues like the Miss India Holland
Pageant, Haschiba, Milan, the World Forum Convention center and The Hague City
Hall. She also performed at the Global Human Rights Defence Child Benefitconcert
at the Anton Philipszaal in The Hague.
The same year she debuted as an artist she won her first music award, handed to her by the Hindu Student Forum the Netherlands. Pravini was noted for breaking boundaries by writing her own music and lyrics inspired by soul, R&B and hip hop as an Indian artist. To add to her repertoire she was also recognized for her debut music video "Cuz I'm a Lady," which was the first video by an Indian R&B singer on The Box (Holland), where fans could request her video to be played. In November she was also chosen for the national project Talented, initiated by the department of Education. This project is meant to offer colored and talented people such as Pravini a stage and a network of people who can help them advance to a higher level. These people are considered to be role models and inspirations to society. Pravini parents are from Surinam.
Her ancestors are from India, but her parents were born in Surinam. It’s the neighboring country of Guyana, and they came to the Netherlands where Pravini was born and raised.
Pravini was also asked to become the ambassador of the Global Human Rights
Defense, an international human rights organization with the objective of promoting
human rights for those areas where severe violations have victimized relatively
large populations. As a goodwill ambassador Pravini will try to raise awareness
through her music.
